MONDAY: New home sales – an economic indicator – is released this morning. The measure is viewed as a lagging indicator of real estate demand and a factor that could impact mortgage rates. A jam-packed week of earnings reports also gets underway. Over 90 companies are scheduled to release results today including Sprint, the Whirlpool Corporation, and D.R. Horton.
TUESDAY: The Federal Open Market Committee meeting begins today. According to CNBC, “investors will be looking for the Federal Reserve to soothe markets by reaffirming its position that interest rates will be low for a long time into the future.” On the economic front, Durable goods, S&P/Case-Shiller home prices, and consumer confidence reports are all released in the morning. Apple will highlight the earnings releases today but a host of other companies report including 3M, Pfizer, United Technologies, Starbucks, eBay, LVMH, Autoliv, PulteGroup, Paccar, McCormick, HCA, Xilinx, Stryker, Alaska Air, Boston Properties, MicroStrategy
WEDNESDAY: The FOMC decision is announced and we get a briefing from Fed Chairman Jerome Powell where he is “expected to emphasize that the Fed remains on a neutral policy path and that would only change if there was a significant change in the economic outlook.” Advance economic indicators and pending home sales reports are also released. It’s a busy day for earnings with the following high profile companies scheduled to report: Boeing, Microsoft, Facebook, AT&T, Dow, General Electric, McDonald’s, Mastercard, Tesla, PayPal, Mondelez, Cirrus Logic, Cree, Legg Mason, Corning, Novartis, Anthem, Hess, Stanley Black and Decker, Southern Co, Norfolk Southern, General Dynamics, Rockwell Automation
THURSDAY: Jobless claims and Q4 GDP reports will be released in the morning. The following companies will report earnings: Amazon.com, Coca-Cola, Royal Dutch Shell, Raytheon, Eli Lilly, Altria, Verizon, Unilever, UPS, Blackstone, Dupont, Hershey, International Paper, Marsh and McLennan, AmerisourceBergen, Northrop Grumman, Nintendo, Sprint, Sherwin-Williams, MSCI, Amgen, Visa, US Steel
FRIDAY: Personal income, consumer senitment, the employement cos index and chicago PMI are all released this morning. Caterpillar, Exxon Mobil, Chevron, Colgate-Palmolive, Illinois Tool Works, KKR, Honeywell, Weyerhaeuser, Blue Apron, ManpowerGroup, Booz Allen, Philips 66, Aon, and Johnson Controls are a few of the companies that report fourth quarter results.
