MONDAY: This morning Fed Governor Michelle Bowman speaks about the state of the US economy. Philadelphia Fed President Patrick Harker will give his own remarks in the afternoon. There are no economic reports scheduled, so investors will be focusing on earnings. Allergan, Southern Copper, and Restaurant Brands international all release their fourth-quarter results.

TUESDAY: Fed Chairman Jerome Powell testifies today and tomorrow before Congress. The bi-annual appearance will provide insight into whether or not a rate cut is coming. On Friday the Federal Reserve said spillover effects from the coronavirus pose a “risk” to the global economy so Powell’s words will be the focal point of the day. Economic data points like the NFIB small-business index, job openings, and household debt are released and New Hampshire’s primary will also be important to keep an eye on. Earnings include UnderArmour, AutoNation, and Virtu Financial.

WEDNESDAY: Powell testifies before the Senate banking committee, wrapping up his two-day stint on Capitol Hill. The Federal Budget is released on fourth-quarter results are announced by CVS Caremark, CME Group, Softbank, Cisco Systems, Applied Materials, and CyberArk Software.

THURSDAY: Weekly jobless claims and the Consumer price index are released this morning. There is a Senate banking hearing on Fed board nominees Judy Shelton and Christopher Walker at 10 a.m. and New York Fed President John Williams speaks in the afternoon. Pepsico, Kraft Heinz, and Fidelity National report earnings.

FRIDAY: The week ends with a steady stream of economic data today. Retail sales, import prices, industrial production, consumer sentiment, and business inventories are all released before noon. AstraZeneca, Newell Brands, MGM Growth Properties, and Yandex hand in their latest report cards.
